Located in Miami Beach, the iconic Fontainebleau Miami Beach is a 1,504-room resort with a rich, honored history. Originally designed in 1954 by Morris Lapidus, the property has long been defined by its theatrical modernism and cultural prominence.
As part of a two-year renovation and expansion (completed in 2008), the landscape was reimagined to support a contemporary resort experience while reinforcing the clarity and geometry of the original architecture. Central to the design is the oceanfront poolscape, which reinterprets Lapidus’ signature bow-tie motif through a modern, free-form main pool that anchors the composition.
A series of layered water environments—including an oasis pool, interactive children’s waterscape, and multiple dipping pools—creates a gradient of experiences from active to secluded. “Walls of water” and sculptural elements define space while maintaining visual continuity.
Thirty private cabanas, including island and VIP offerings, create a range of guest experiences while supporting a more personalized level of service. The result is a cohesive outdoor environment that balances energy and retreat, translating the Fontainebleau’s legacy into a contemporary landscape expression.
